Flowers for a Baby Shower

About a month ago I was asked if I could help out with decorations for a baby shower that my friend was throwing. Of course the answer was yes so the ideas started flowing. Nicole is great because she basically said do what ever you want I know it will look great. The one rule was everything had to be pink and brown. The shower was being held at the expecting mothers home so knowing this I wanted to do a variety of different vases.This way, on the day of, you can see which type of vase looks good in different spots since there will be different areas in the house that guests will be socializing. I also did the favors for the guests. I am so not the traditional person when it comes to favor so I suggested she do real flowers in clay pots. This way they last a decently long time. The tag on the favor had two meanings. "Watch me grow" was meant for both the flower and for the baby once she is born. I hope you enjoy the pictures!

Practicing Bouquets

The other day was my birthday and I got a TON of flowers. They were all gorgeous but I couldn't resist 'playing' with them. So I decided to pick out certain flowers from each one of my arrangements and make a bridal bouquet. The size of the bouquet would more appropriately be for a bridesmaids. I decided to take all the white and off-white flowers to make a winter themed bouquet. There were white Gerber daisies, roses, two different small filler flowers.

Christmas 2010

This is way over due. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and great new year. This year my boyfriend and I hosted Christmas eve. It was some what of a challenge since we both had to work until about an hour before ours guests were to arrive. Planning was key to getting everything cooked that I wanted to have. For each dish I made sure that I would not to use the same pot or pan to cook two different things. For the menu we decided on a few different choices. A cheese and meat board was created which allowed for food to be out the entire time while guests coming and did not use any dishes to cook them in. Oysters Rockefeller was prepped a head of time and broiled once everyone arrived. Mini pizza bagels were cooked using our pizza stone. Steamed clams were cooked on the stove top. Shrimp cocktail was also done in advance which helped us keep focus of food that needed to be cooked and kept warm. Finally the bacon wrapped scallops were prepped the day before and placed in the oven once everyone arrived. Everything came out great thanks to my helpful hand in the kitchen (Thank you Dino!) Another thing I did that helps get the food on the plate quickly is deciding and labeling ahead of time what food is going on which platter. I also lay out all of the platters on the table to make sure they fit correctly. To add to my table was a winter floral arrangement I made in a class I took. Sarah Lusardi is the owner of NY Engagements and teaches floral classes to people who are interested in learning how to arrange flowers. Mothers, daughter, and friends attended which made for a really fun night out. Hope you enjoy the pictures!

My most recent work

These last two events that I planned and helped out with I absolutely love! The first one was my cousins bridal shower. It was held at Arielle in Rhinebeck. The shower was small and intimate. We had one long table that everyone sat at and the bride sat at the head of the table. I decided to do red as the color scheme because I wanted a dark, rich color. The invitation was red and had an embossed image of a wedding dress. I also added a lacy punch out to the edge of the invitation. For flowers I used white hydrangea that I ordered off of Sam's Club. At first I was extremely hesitant to order them but I decided to go ahead and do it which  I am very happy I did. I also had many candles lining the table. Each person had there own menu that had a lace accent on the top. Finally, I made chocolate covered strawberries that were placed on the dessert spoon of each guest.

I made the favors. Each guest got a jar of cookies and a cone of M&Ms. The jars were recycled jars that I frosted designs onto. I made the cones by using large pieces of paper and folding them into rectangular cones

Table Detail

 This next event was my bosses wedding from when I did my internship. My last semester at school I interned at Full Moon Resort located in Big Indian, N.Y. I learned many things while doing this internship, met a lot of people, and gain a lot of helpful information about the industry. At the same time as I was doing my internship, my boss at Full Moon was also planning her own wedding which she was having at The Moon! That's right, she got married where she works because she is that passionate and loves Full Moon so much. She asked me to come back over the summer to help out the day of her event. In addition to day of assistance I designed and created her reception menus and ceremony programs. They came out great! I am so glad I was given the chance to make them.

This was the ceremony program. They were fans which worked out great because it was literally the hottest day of the summer! Each fern was hand stamped onto each program (200 total!) I picked ferns, painted the fern, then pressed them onto the paper.
